A female prison officer has been suspended over claims she had sex with a murderer.

The unnamed woman is accused of having an affair with 27-year-old Leigh Thornhill, who was jailed for killing mother-of-two Corinne Bailey and violently attacking another woman, the Belfast Telegraph reports.
A judge described the then 19-year-old as "dangerous and perverted" man who was handed a life sentence. He was found guilty of brutally battering Mrs Bailey to death with a plank of wood after sexually assaulting her in 2003.

A Prison Service spokesman said: "A member of staff from HMP Wakefield has been suspended pending the outcome of an internal investigation."
